Breakfast panel
Discussion of Osric's princess bubblegum outfit.
Jensen: He stole my outfit. Looks at outfit on a phone photo. It's a cartoon? I'm fairly certain there's a manlier cartoon character.. even an animal would've been… it's like the color pink threw up all over it.
Jared: We flew from Vancouver to Dallas, he was a little strange at the airport, you know.
Jensen: This is confusing.
Jared: Osric is already confusing, so this kinda explains…did you work out who Osric was in the Harlem shake video?
Jensen: It was his day off, he drove all out to Boundary Bay, which is a trip outside of Vancouver, and we were doing it very early, he shows up and he's "I'm the one in the body bag"! Well, you could've phoned that role in, not drive all the way out here to be completely unrecognizable.
Jared: It's like people don't do that – when Jensen and I get a day off, we'll drive as far away from work as possible. He reminded me at the airport that his first day on set was the night Gen went into labor, and he was like – we were at Riverview asylum, you were running around chasing me, then all of a sudden you were "see y'all later", that's true, and I just carried on running to the car.
(baby)
Jared: Tom's like, you know how dogs are when you come home smelling of another dog, Tom's like that with babies, if I hold JJ or something, I come home and he's like that's not my smell, that's not my poo.
question about purgatory?
Jensen: I really liked the storyline, my favorite thing was the treatment they did on the film, the oversaturated, a bit like season 1, I really enjoyed the look, I wish we would do more of that stuff. What I didn't like the most was the amount of blood I had to constantly wear on my face, it's basically corn syrup, I made the mistake of telling the makeup artist, let's just go for it, it's a one-time deal, season opener, go big, then I read the outlines 'flashback to purgatory' ..(head bang) so I kinda shot myself in the foot. I did like the action and working with Ty.
Jared: For first timers, one of the joys we get at cons, is sometimes the doors will be open and someone is just walking by and hears "about my time in purgatory" like what are these people talking about!? Well Lucifer was in me..
Gag reel: Jensen can you cross your eyes.
Jensen: Sometimes I do my off camera to Jared, just one eye –
Jared, And I can't hold it together, so…
asked about teasing Misha.
Jared: We almost got to rubbing gunpowder residue on his suitcase before he flies back…
Jensen: There's a scene where I am ordering something from Misha, and I changed the order a few times on his coverage, and instead of his line, he would be like smile, and it'd be cut, cut. He's too easy, it's like a little puppy, just bat him around.
Jared: we pick up very shortly after S8, and what happened to Sam in the church hurt him real good, as we say in Texas.
What's it like working with Mark Sheppard? He's really fun to work with because he really knows his stuff,
Jared: We've tried to get under his skin, but he's less breakable than Misha, he and Jim Beaver are pros, tough to break.
Tell us about your wine company?
Jared: It's really early stages but we're looking to put out a wine.
Someone throws a bag (of something edible) onto stage, Jensen catches it and throws it to Jared.
Which version of your character is …
Jared: Lucifer is pretty mean.
Jensen: Gym coach with a volleyball, dodgeball is a tough sport
Dad being absent…
Jared: We love Jeff, but John is dead so that forced Sam and Dean as brothers to connect and join forces because they had nothing.
Jensen: Dean looked up to his Dad a lot, but he's taken the base and become his own man, I'm sure he'd have loved for his father to be there, but he had to turn to his brother, so the father had to go to get the brothers to bond. We love working with Jeff, we miss him on set, but it was a necessity for the story for him to go.
Who's your instagram MCM?
Jensen: What's instagram?
Jared Hugh Jackman is badass.
(gap, probably q about the Vedder concert last weekend)
Jared: pharmaceutical companies research cures for things like cancer, but rare diseases that only affect a few hundred people need grass roots fundraising so that was that, and it was an amazing evening.
Phobias – Sam clowns/Dean flying – what about you?
Jared: Bears, they are huge scary
Jensen: I'm not going to explain this, but Jared and I were in a taxidermy shop recently, and there was a stuffed polar bear, 9ft tall, it was huge. (9×05,Sep 9th Eric Gander & Sons Taxidermy Ltd 16084 Fraser Hwy)

Main Panel
RSJ takes small boy dressed as Dean backstage and Jensen comes out with him on his shoulders, then main panel starts.

Where are people from, glad to be here, Jensen says they're missing the Cowboys game right now.
Significance of Lebanon, Kansas?
Jensen: They haven't told us yet.
Question about killing monsters, she says she asked before and Jensen said he'd get back to her, and after some discussion, Jensen says he'll get back to her on that.
If you were girls, what would your bikinis look like?
Jared: in the nether regions it would show the Netherlands, and say Hamsterdam as a joke.
Jensen: two steering wheel center caps from the impala and then the grill.
Jared: ten to one we see that costume at Toronto con.
What does Dean think about being a father, and has being a father changed your opinions?
Jensen: Dean realizes that isn't for him, it doesn't end well, he belongs cruising down the road in the impala with his brother. And, no being a father, it hasn't changed my opinion.
For Jared, in High School you did competitive speaking, how did that affect your career?
Jared: It prepared me for not succeeding, auditions are terrifying and I remember getting really nervous for the Forensics League, and playing different versions of characters, so it was great preparation for TV.
Would you recommend theatrical training for going into TV, or is it different?
Jared: in the US TV is different.
If you could implement any law on SPN, what would it be?
Jensen: A 9 hour day, not a 14hour one, it's not natural (it's Supernatural), or that or Misha gets a cattle prod every time…
Inspirational books, or songs, or movies?
Jensen: Ice Ice Baby for white rappers
Jared: I wanted to be JTT. Now, FF to now, living in LA, driving somewhere, this other car… I was going' what a jerk', and it was JTT.
What would you like to learn, if you had time?
Jensen: languages, but, anything, from people around us, all aspects of the film industry, and beyond.
Characters changed?
Jared: Sam has become more comfortable with who he is, he wasn't meant to be the lawyer, etc, life showed him the hard way, man plans, God laughs.
Jensen: Our characters have evolved, there's a need for change or we'd get season 1 over again, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The Moose nickname?
Jared: I dig it, I grew up in a teasing kind of atmosphere. Mark and Misha learned that the hard way.
Fave music:
Jensen: Classic Rock is the station in the car, but I listen to a lot of other things, all of it.
What is the silliest thing you do?
Jared: I make myself laugh

Jensen: In my apartment in Vancouver, which I'm very rarely in, because we're working, or at weekends I go home to California, which is a high rise overlooking the harbor, with floor to ceiling windows, sometimes I put on my guitar and pretend it's an audience, it's just boats going by.
If you were in Sam and Dean's situation…
Jared: every girl I'm with dies, or is a demon….
Jensen: A friend said she thinks her house is haunted, books fly off shelves, she's like 'would you come over?' What? You must be out of your mind! Come over there and get a book in the face? Then Jensen's mic makes a loud feedback..
Someone shouts out the football score, 3rd 1/4 Dallas 24 St Louis 7
If you could play any character ..
Jared Sam on Supernatural, or Dean in Gilmore Girls
Who wouldn't want to be Walker, Texas Ranger?
Jared: Someone who makes very rare appearances, like Castiel, he works a day, has a month off
Mom wants to know, because he's not here, where's Bobby?
Jared: Show-wise, in heaven, but I think he's doing a show in LA or maybe Austin.
Exaggerated Texas accent: What actors do you like working with? (Misha appears)
Misha brings a pig called Icarus on stage and they joke around for a bit.
Question about Austin sport, Jensen says Jared's the Austin guy.
What's the best prank you played on Misha?
Jared: we poured gunpowder in his suitcase for when he flies back to Vancouver.
Jared: We can't say what we've got planned for when he's directing, he won't wish he never directed, he'll wish he never lived!
Any hair tips, favorite conditioner, Jared?
Jensen grabs the beanie off Jared and says THIS is his hair stylist.
Jared: I use the hotel shampoo, variety is the spice of life.
Jensen: Keep it short.
Funniest child story?
Jared: peepee teepees, for young boys when you change the diaper.
Jensen: She's always laughing when I change her diaper, I thought it was cute, but now I realize she's laughing AT me. Already like her mother.
Who would you want as your zombie apocalypse buddy?
Jared: there's a saying if you're in the woods and see a bear or a lion,
Jensen: a lion? Oh, Narnia, a lion or a wardrobe.
Jared: I don't have to be faster than the lion, I just have to be faster than you.
Jensen: you selfish prick! Who would I pick, well not this guy, (someone suggests the impala), Jensen, yes, the impala (drive off).
Question about acting depicting mental health.
Jared: Acting in general is realizing that your reality is just your reality, what's true to you, we have explored so many different realities, you're portraying a reality.
Who would be the worst person in the cast to live with and why?
Jensen: Jared, from experience.
Jared: I'm very clean but I'm a Cancer (horoscope) and I want my space, my shell.
Jensen: (confused about Cancer) Osric, if I came home and he was dressed like that.
Panel ends, RSJ arrives, Jensen takes his hat.

Fangasm
The Supernatural convention in Dallas is always special – for one thing, this year it included a pig named Icarus who stole everyone’s hearts, including Jared, Jensen and Misha. Also, it’s in the state the boys call home, and that means Jared and Jensen are more laid back than usual. Jared’s parents and Jensen’s parents, grandmother Dorothy, and brother and sister-in-law all came to join in the fun. We had the pleasure of chatting briefly with Donna and Alan Ackles,

A fan at the breakfast panel that morning had gotten up to tell Jared and Jensen that she’d been suffering from severe depression, and Supernatural literally saved her life. It was obvious, watching Jared and Jensen’s reactions to what she was saying, that they were very touched.
Fangasm Dallas Con, Jensen M&G
One of the great questions was about Dean being a “pop culture nerd”.
Jensen laughed and said he didn’t think Dean was necessarily a fan of vampire novels or whatever, but that he and Sam probably have a lot of down time between working cases, so they’re stuck in crummy motel rooms and Dean watches a lot of tv. (deadpan) Meanwhile, Sam’s probably reading War and Peace.
Sometimes Dean is also a mouthpiece for the writers’ nerdom.  Dean is a better character for expressing that than Sam, and Jensen finds it pretty funny.
There were a lot of questions about the impact of Dean and Sam being Men of Letters and having a ‘home’ in the bunker.
Jensen talked about how finding out he’s a legacy has changed Dean, who has always been something of a lone wolf. He relies on his brother, but that relationship is also a protective one. The Men of Letters has given Dean a renewed sense of purpose, one that impacts his identity, and a sense of belonging.
Random note: Every time Jensen couldn’t find the exact word for something he wanted to say, he’d exclaim, “Sorry, babybrain.”
re being Dean?
Jensen: Jared and I used to have to think about something else to get emotional, but now we’re so in tune with these characters. I know what Dean would feel if he lost his brother, or if he’s scrambling to save his brother’s life, so when we feel those emotions now we’re not even breaking character.  Jensen said that while he uses a lot of his own experience and his emotions with Dean, he can focus on the aspects that are not like Dean and separate himself more easily from the character when he’s on hiatus.  At least I think I can. Then sometimes Danneel will say ‘Stop using your Dean voice!’

He paused after answering this question and wondered aloud what it would be like when the Show ends and he doesn’t go back to being Dean….to putting on the boots and driving the Impala.  Someone lightened the mood by pointing out that perhaps Jensen will bring one of the Impalas home with him, and he brightened immediately.

Lynn: Someone – Bob Singer or Jeremy Carver, I think – commented that the bunker was a home for Dean, but a workplace for Sam.  Do you think Dean and Sam feel differently about the bunker?
Jensen said that part of the difference is just that Dean and Sam have different personalities. He does think Dean considers it a home, and that he’s wanted a home – a place to decorate, to display his guns, a comfortable bed. For Sam, it’s more like the place where you have a store on the bottom and live in the apartment on top, which I guess means it’s a little of both.
Lynn: I think my psychologist explanation is that Sam’s life was disrupted so early that he doesn’t even remember having a home, but Dean was four when Mary died, and he’s always longed for the home he was old enough to remember.
Jensen: (throwing his hands up) You answered your own question! And you went to school for that, so let’s just go with your answer.
There was some discussion of how much input the actors have into the dialogue or the finished product that we see on our tv screens. Jensen said that sometimes even when the writing is great, what you see on paper doesn’t sound like actual conversation when spoken, so sometimes he changes things to be ‘more Dean-like’. Sometimes a scene as blocked doesn’t work in a location either – last week there was a new director who was trying hard to shoot a scene with Jensen and Misha as written that was logistically impossible, and they were rapidly losing daylight. Jensen was able to suggest a minor change that made it quicker and easier to shoot.
He won’t be directing this year, but hopes to next year – if there is a next year!
Directing is something that Jensen he admits he puts a lot of pressure on himself, so he tends to be over-prepared. He looked up to the amazing director Kim Manners. Kim always told Jensen that he would direct one day, and promised that he’d be right there with him when he did. Jensen still feels that Kim is looking over his shoulder, so he wants to do it right. He compared it to cramming for a test, wanting to have the shot list completed before filming starts.
The hardest part of directing, he says, is casting. As an actor who’s gone through the stresses of the audition process himself, when you’re doing your best in front of an often tired and disinterested group of people, Jensen says he finds it heartbreaking when an actor is auditioning and the nerves take over.
Jensen also talked a little about the Impala’s new engine, which now actually sounds like an Impala. Apparently they used to dub in the engine sound of a 427 Shelby Mustang. Jensen said he used to be embarrassed when fans would come to watch filming and he’d be driving the Impala and it wouldn’t sound anything like an Impala would.  He also admitted to enjoying ‘punching it and doing 360s.’
Someone asked if after Supernatural is over), he might work with his dad again.
Alan Ackles (from the back of the room) I don’t know, he’s so difficult to work with…
Fans and rest of Ackles Family: LOL
Jensen said his goodbyes with the heartfelt appreciation he and Jared always express any time they get to interact with fans.

Fangasm Jared M&G
Jared’s parents sat in on his meet and greet. He shared an amusing story about being on a flight recently. He was sitting with Mark Pellegrino, and Jensen, Danneel and JJ were sitting in front of them. Everyone was very respectful, but he said it was funny watching people’s reactions as they walked by and realized how many members of the SPNFamily were on the plane – people would be hitting their friend and whispering “Omg, look at that!”
A fan asked if Jared had made any decisions in Season 1 that he’d had to carry over into Season 9, and if he regretted any. He didn’t say he regretted anything, but he did say that he was told while shooting the pilot that they wanted the character of Sam to be intelligent. Jared himself is a smart guy from a family of academics, so in the first couple episodes he really tried to get that across.
Jared’s brother used to live in Dallas, so he recommended some good places to eat, especially for barbeque.
Deborah: (deliberately being a smartass) Any vegetarian restaurants?
Jared: (deadpans) Get out of the room. (recommends a place that makes great chicken)
Deborah: That’s still meat.

A fan brought a blanket that she had spent three months crocheting for Jared, and joked that if he didn’t want it, he could just touch it and then she would keep it forever. Which we understand completely. Jared’s dad came up to admire it, and of course Jared did want to keep it.a fan talked about how incredible the Season 8 finale was, and said that the Show – and Jared – should get an Emmy.   Jared said that for him, talking to fans is what it’s all about.  He doesn’t need an Emmy to know how people feel about the Show, doesn’t need that judgment by his peers.
Another fan mentioned someone she knew who had a neurological condition in which her dreams were more vivid than her real life. She’s an SPN fan, and dreamt about hunting with Sam and Dean and Bobby, and that has kept her from being suicidal despite the illness.
