2016-04-03 Jared, Jensen Sunday DC Con

Gold panel
Jared: Welcome to our big dysfunctional family. Jensen: Speak for yourself. I’m very functional, especially in the morning.
Jared on “Red Meat”: “We were in the episode and watching it was stressful. I was shot. He was dying.” They try to decide how many times they’ve died.
Jared: Tom was so polite, you could bribe him with candy. I was like, ok, I’ve got this down. Jensen (as Jared): “He’s just like me.”
Jensen talks about how hard it is to be away form JJ. Jared: She plays him like a fiddle. Jensen trying to discipline JJ: “You wanna go to time out?” And she’s like, “okay.” “Well…you don’t get to now.”
Jensen: JJ strokes my face and says, “I love you daddy.”
A kid asks Jensen why he stood up singing on the car (Eye of the Tiger)? Jensen: I was trying to be taller than Jared. “Don’t stand on cars, stay in school.”
Jensen stresses the importance of them never breaking out of playing Sam and Dean in The French Mistake. Their one rule for that ep was not breaking character.
Fan asks a question about Dean’s alcoholism. Jared says that the boys are flawed and being flawed doesn’t make you a bad person. You don’t have to be perfect and you have struggles – feels that’s one of the best things about spn. Jared: Sam was addicted to demon blood, they played Jensen with the alcoholism. Jensen: DEAN! DEAN was the alcoholic.
Jared plays a little on a fan’s guitar.
On filming fight scenes between the boys, like in “Safe House” – Jensen: It’s easier for us to fight each other because we know and trust each other.
Jensen talks about filming fight scenes with Mark Pellegrino, who is a trained boxer, trained to connect. Says it’s a little nerve wracking. During the fight scene in The Cage Mark missed him barely, hit his eyelashes.
Jared had to break the chair over Jensen’s stand-in Jesse, who is a trained fighter and Jared calls him a badass. Jesse told him to really hit him with the chair. Jared: I don’t really want to!
Jensen likens their fighting to dance partners. Jensen: We’ve been dancing together so long. This is…not a perfect analogy. What’s something else you do with a partner? Jared: You’re really going downhill aren’t you? Jensen: I’m waiting for YOU to bail me out lol.
Fan sings to the boys, sounds amazing and they clap.
Jensen’s grandmother used to sing “You Are My Sunshine” to him every day before she passed away.
Danneel sent Jensen a video of JJ pretending to smoke, and he was like, “Where did she learn that?!
” Jared jokes: She’s 3. Time to start.
Where did JJ learn that dance move? Jared: From watching daddy 🙂
If they swap one of their past characters into spn, Jensen: Alec (Dark Angel) is the easy choice. Says he’d like to see Priestly (TIH) fighting demons in a kilt lol. Jared: Dean (GG). There always needs to be a Dean on Supernatural.
When asked how Sam is able to have faith after everyone has betrayed and mistreated him. Jared said that faith is a matter of choice and assigning meanings to things. Jared told the funny joke about a believer who is praying to God for help because she has no food to feed her family. An atheist overheard her and was determined to prove to her that there there is no God by buying groceries, sneaking in her house and laying the food on her table. When she came home and saw all the food, she prayed to God thanking Him for the bounty. The atheist jumped out and shouted "it was me that gave you the food, not God!" She looked at atheist, went back praying thanking God for the food and making the devil pay for it.
There was a talk about SPN's dark storyline and whether if it worsen Jared's depression or not.
There were 33 people, which surprised me a little since 20 seats were bidded, so I wondered if the extra ten people were from the VIP thing? The 3 extra people sat against the wall and looked out of place. When Jared came in he saw the 3 wallflowers he went over to them and said he was glad they came, one of the wallflowers, a young man, stood up to shake Jared's hand. Later I asked them what Jared meant and the young man said they were from the museum.
A woman, who is in the army, asked about Jared's "coordination" with Jensen, I think it's military speak for friendship and brotherhood? When Jared found out that SPN will be filming in Vancouver, everybody assured Jared that it would be great because Canadians are so nice. Soon after Jared arrived in Vancouver his car was broken into because his tennis racket was in the back seat. Then Jared, Jensen, and Jordan was jumped by 8 guys. Fighting those 8 men help cement his bond with Jensen because they knew then that they will always have each others back. From here Jared talked a bit about their families are friends, their kids play together, and loving Jensen's family and JJ, etc.
I forgot to mention that the first question was from a person who was disenchanted with season 9 and 10 and ask if the show is going in the direction of heroes or monster. Jared thanked her for her honesty since he can hear hair bristling from the rest of the room, so I think he was protecting her from us haha. He gave a very thoughtful answer that talked about his friend who searched and found his biological father, that experience colored his view of a scene from the tv show House that the rest of us wouldn't even think of. Jared then uses the example of how 21 people can listen to the the same music but it means different to each of those 21 people. Her disenchantment with the previous season is perfectly valid based on her personal experience and what she is currently going through. That said, he likes where the current season 11 is going.
I think this came out of the question from the woman who is in the army and asked about how he and Jensen "coordinate" themselves and their characters. In the military she knows all about the brotherhood bond among those that serve. Jared thank her for her service and that it's people like her (and three of his grandparents who served in the war) that he gets to wear makeup and play heroes (I'm really paraphrasing here). I mentioned in another post that Jared talked about his car getting broken into (I think they smashed the window) soon after arriving in Canada and getting jumped by 8 men and how he, Jensen, and Jordan fought those men, so it ties back to that military band of brotherhood that becomes an unbreakable bond born out of shared experience that nobody else can understand or relate to. Jared said he and Jensen are very close, that they see each other more than their wives. their families are friends, their wives are best friends, their kids play together, he loves Jensen's family and JJ and that he would step in front of a car for JJ, as Jensen would do the same for Jared's family.
No spoilers on upcoming episodes, just general show stuff and some Red Meat talk, I think people were still on a high from that episode and wasn't thinking about the upcoming ones, including myself, now I'm kicking myself for not thinking to ask about epi 20 that he was excited about according to past con reports. Oh and Jared agreed that Sam knew Dean was lying about knowing that Sam hadn't actually died.

J2 Main DCCon 2016 Panel Summary Tumblr
J2 crash Jake Abel’s panel. Jared to Jake: Listen to your older brother. Jensen: No! Listen to your older brother.
Jared is sad he can’t sit backwards on the chair because it has built-in armrests lol. Jensen tells him to sit in it like a normal person.
Clif comes to the rescue and brings out a different chair so Jared can sit backwards.
Do they wish Demon!Dean had lasted longer? Jared says yes, jokes about how it gave him time off in Austin and to go wakeboarding. They both wish it had gone on for a few more eps.
Jensen talks about how the crew has to build the height challenged actors on the show platforms and walkways. Jared: The best is when tall people come on set and realize they’re not the tallest one anymore.
One character they want to bring back? Both: Ruby. Jensen: When Sam’s with Ruby, Jensen’s off wakeboarding in Austin (turns it on Jared lol). They have a list of people they would love to bring back.
If they could be any character from The X-Files, Jared would be Tooms. Thinks it would be fun to fit in pipes and scare people. Jared says he would wear a dress and ask if it makes him look fat and then shrink himself like Tooms and say, how about now? Jared: Know what I mean? Jensen: No, I don’t wear dresses. Jared: Your loss.
Working with kids is hard but it does mean short shooting hours.
Jared admits he takes insults hard, wouldn’t want his kids exposed to the judgmental side. Jensen talks about how one negative comment can wash away all of the compliments and wishes there was a button that could wash away the negativity, that we could build each other up.
They talk about watching the “Red Meat” episode together in the trailer. Jensen admits that when Sam wakes up after we thought he was dead he exclaimed, “Oh, he’s awake!” even though he already knew from the script. Jared starts teasing Jensen for how he kept grabbing Jared during parts that got him excited like when he was alive. Jared: My arm is bruising, Rob is like what’s going on, and Misha is like can we Facebook live yet?
Jensen says it was a very stressful ep, remembers grabbing Jared a couple times. Jared: There were lots of little homages, like to The Revenant and Romeo and Juliet. Says Nina (the director) was amazing.
Jensen says he would feel very similar to Dean losing Sam if Jared were to die. Says that it’s the loss of somebody who is essentially a brother that would create a space that “never gets filled.”
God!Cas, Soulless!Sam, Demon!Dean. Jared: Cas would probably die first. I think Soulless!Sam would be smart enough to not get involved in the fight. Demon!Dean would be karaoking “I’m Too Sexy.”
Perfect day: Jensen would have pie. Someone yelled what flavor, another yelled Danneel. Jensen: Danneel flavored?
Jared’s perfect day includes being with his sons, shopping at Whole Foods to get stuff for dinner (Jensen teases him, mimics how Jared is when he’s grocery shopping), and ride on Jensen’s jet skis. Jensen would mess with the jet ski parts and make a margarita and watch Jared struggle lol.
Crossover with any other series? Jared: Arrow to make Stephen look short.
Jensen talks about how the show has changed their lives in many different ways, from family to friends, new perspectives, etc. They are forever grateful for all of it. Jared talks about Eric Kripke and the show keeping interested in the Winchester’s struggle and the ties that bind.
Jensen was ordering food from room service last night, was asking how much garlic was on it. The guy on the phone said it wouldn’t be able to kill vampires. Jensen: That’s alright, I already do. Room service guy: Wait, what? Jensen: Yeah, that’s my day job.
Jensen had a hard time playing against Jared’s Soulless!Sam. He says Jared did a great job and it was a great storyline, but he was ready to get “Sam back” and “Dean back” – who Dean is with his brother.
Jared had a hard time playing Lucifer the first time, as well as the mirror scene between Lucifer!Sam and Sam. “Red Meat” was difficult. He was dreading it, didn’t know what to expect. It turned out pretty cool, says that the scenes they dread the most usually turn out the best or are the most rewarding.
A fan brings up Lip Sync Battle and how Misha promised they would do it at his panel yesterday. Which song would they pick? Jensen says he would close with Eye of the Tiger. They take some audience suggestions, Jared mentions a couple, then goes with “I’ve Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts” and “If You Want My Body.” Jensen later says: I ain’t doing it. Saw the one Channing Tatum did – “I ain’t putting on a wig.” Jared saw an online survey and they are very aware that fans want them to do Lip Sync lol.
How did Dean’s time in Hell with Alastair influence his ability to hold the Mark of Cain? Jensen:…Jared? Jared: Funny you should ask, I think it influenced his ability to hold a lot of things. His bladder…my heart. Jared thinks Dean’s time in Hell must have affected it, thinks the MOC is stronger than Dean’s time with Alastair, calls it the lion’s share. Jensen: I agree with him.
Spoilers!! Jared mentions they might be doing something in the eps coming up that deal with the Mark of Cain and effects of the MOC.
Any scene with J2 and Misha take longer than with anyone else. They recently tormented Rob on set and Misha was happy they were picking on someone else for once. According to Rob being on the show is like an acting obstacle course, a Tough Mudder.
Rob to J2: you two know how to do it. Jensen: Yeah we do. Wait what?
Jensen says that when Dean snapped at Sam after Charlie died, it was the Mark of Cain not Dean.
Advice to s1 Sam and Dean? Jensen: Don’t trick your brother into allowing an angel to possess him. Bad. Jared: Don’t start the apocalypse. Ruby’s lying.
Jared would also give his 22-year-old self advice to Always Keep Fighting.
