JIBCON
daniela chiusa Good morning from jibcon7 !

11:05-11:50 J2 panel (x)

Jensen made a joke about Jared not being at JIB last year: “Okay, who went to every jib?” Jared walks away.
Jensen caresses his beard: It’s facial art. Jared: Fart! Facial art! They also talk about Jared’s hair lol.
The boys say when the show’s not on they’re not interesting people, they play with the kids and just grow beards.
Fan: Thank you BOTH for being here again. Jared: I feel like that was directed at me. Jensen: It was.
Jared: My imaginary friend as a kid looked like Jensen. Jensen: Handsome! Strong jaw?
Jensen didn’t have an imaginary friend but he had a strong imagination, put imaginary worlds together, like GI Joe with the army men, the green ones like in the impala. He went to an art fair in Austin where they had huge double-life-sized of those green soldiers and he wanted to buy one (the sniper lying down shooting). Danneel said where would you even put it? In the yard. She said no.
Fan: Congrats on the renewal, we’ll be with you until the very end. Boys: THANK YOU
J2 speak a little German. Jared Dankeschen, Jensen Bitteschen (You're welcome)
Jared says there were a lot of moments when he was proud of Sam. He was proud of Sam for getting Gadreel out of him. In real life he says he was proud of helping Gen through labor with Tom and keeping it together, because she thanked him for supporting her.
Jensen says he is proud of Dean when he does selfless acts or sacrifices himself for the greater good. In real life Jensen tells a story about helping a guy out on the road by helping him out of his blocked car and pushing it to the side of the road. Danneel said that was very nice of you. He’s also proud of himself when JJ is scared of something and he shows her there's nothing to be scared of.  Jensen says he is not the greatest fan of spiders and Jared laughs and says he calls for Danneel to kill the spiders. Jensen says JJ came to him and he said it was a huge spider and he got a tissue and told JJ it was fine, see, and grabbed it (grimacing) and put it out in the yard. He said of course if she hadn't have been there he'd have just crushed it.
Fan asks about side effects for Sam getting the Mark of Cain? Jared says that Sam has Cain’s hair so he can handle the Mark of Cain. Jensen: And Gandalf’s beard. Jared: SAMDALF!
Jensen feels they should have spent more time on Dean’s reaction to Sam wanting the Mark of Cain but they didn’t have the time to talk about it more.
A fan makes the boys play rock paper scissors. If she wins they hug, if they win, they get candy.

In the episode where Dean finally wins at rock paper scissors, that was not in the script, Jared came up with that. Jared plays with the screen behind them lol. He then tries to direct a live match of rock paper scissors between the fan and Jensen.  Jensen lost at rock paper scissors so Jared hugged him and lifted him. Fan won the bet, Jared still got candy out of it lol.

@_CatSchneider and because he has lost Jared had to gave him an awkward hug.
Jensen: All of the last episodes could have been the season finale and the next one IS the finale. They think the last four eps were like a four part finale. (Dean talking to himself?)
Jared: I was at Jensen’s house with him and a couple of friends and he goes
Jared: The exact conversation was, Jensen asked, “You wanna go outside and have a beer? and then just carried on yeah, let's do that. and I was like, yeah but what!?
Jensen: Stuff happens. They talk about it. Then they die. Oops. They tease there will be a huge cliffhanger.
Jared: I’ll say this: it was written when we knew we had a season 12, so, um, it’s kinda written, in my opinion, it’s written more as part of a bigger storyline than as like a specific season finale. Does that make any sense?
Jensen: I have something to say about it. It’s the last show of the season.
No. No. In all seriousness, I will say that this particular episode was more of a collaboration from everybody on the show than any other episode you’ve seen this season. Uh, meaning he and I got on the phone with Andrew, with the writers, and with Bob, and had, like a full hour discussion about story points and dialogue and this and that. Misha did it. Mark did it. Everybody was so kind of involved in getting this to the shape that it was in that it was, in my opinion, it was one of the most collaborative efforts we’ve all given for a season finale.
Jared brings out the “not the Losechesters” joke lol.
Fan: Since the Winchesters never die, is immortality a blessing or a curse? Jensen: Blessing because they keep on saving people.
They say that Sam and Dean never count on coming back so when they sacrifice themselves it’s genuine. They still fight monsters even though they don’t have the certainty to come back.
Jensen: “Sometimes the boys win, sometimes they…”(..) Jared: “Say it, say it.” Jensen: “Win later.”
Jared says it’s more relatable if they sacrifice themselves when they’re running a serious risk.
Fan: Given that the Winchesters saved people but started fifteen apocalypses, where would they end up? Jensen says he wants an entire season of the brothers in Purgatory. Jared agrees.
(More spoilers) Jensen says that given a conversation he has with a character in the finale, their mission might pave their way to heaven. Jared says the contrary as in there’s another faction trying to pull them into hell.
J2 are trying to talk in code and give hints about the finale without spoiling it (not sure how good of a job they’re doing lol).
Fan: “I love you very much.” Jensen: “Thank you.” Jared: “That was for me.” Jensen: “…We can share.”
Jensen talks about the scene where Dean was supposed to be angry with Chuck but cried instead, said that the line with Chuck saying he shouldn’t confuse him with John was very powerful. He then jokes that Sam was just excited because he just had cereal and was on a sugar rush.
Jared: Sam is more optimistic, filled with hope, and Dean is a core realist and that showed up in the conversation with Chuck.
A fan says “Sam and Dean” and Jared starts giggling and confesses that he was thinking of a fish with a leather jacket on and bowlegs and he was running from bears and his name was Salmon Dean and then Jensen starts making fish faces LOL
JIBCon game: J2 have to redo a scene from Batman vs Superman. Jared puts on Superman’s cape, Jensen puts on Batman’s cape and mask and they mess around for a minute. Jared: He’s so scary when he does the voice!

14:30-14:50 Jensen M&G – Fangasm report
I asked Jensen how he felt about Robbie leaving too – I’ve talked to him about Robbie at length before, so I know he really appreciated the way Robbie wrote Dean. He’s also very sorry to see Robbie go, and had nice things to say about his writing. But Jensen said he’d talked to Bob Singer, who instead of retiring is now back in the co-pilot’s seat along with Andrew Dabb, and that he has faith in their ability to be showrunners. I was glad to hear that he and Jared are continuing to collaborate with the writers – Misha also weighed in on the season finale, in fact – and that all three of them are trying to play an active role in keeping their characters in character. Jared and Jensen are essentially uncredited producers, he said. So that made me feel a bit better!  There was also a bit of discussion about my favorite game to play, guess what was an adlib. Jensen said that the priceless moment when that severed head is batted off the Impala by the windshield wiper was NOT scripted.  Jensen also talked a little about how close they are with the crew. Every Friday on set they have a lottery where everyone contributes to the pot and then someone wins it. Jared and Jensen often ‘sweeten the pot’ with extra money, and then put in crew members’ names instead of their own. Oh, and he said that he REALLY wanted to host Saturday Night Live, which – think about it – would be awesome!

Fangasm report
We talked with Jared in his meet and greet about how we all wish we saw more Sam pov on the show, and he agreed. For example, where did Sam’s terror of Lucifer go, and why didn’t we see it in later episodes? Jared said that he tried to put in some nonverbals to convey that, because he hadn’t forgotten it either – like a small flinch, for example. He agreed that yes, Sam would still be afraid. Jared talked to Andrew Dabb about the episode being ‘funny’ at times, and Sam being too cavalier about Lucifer. He said that some scenes were unfortunately cut that would have made Sam’s fear clearer, and would also have made it clear that Chuck had reassured the Winchesters that Lucifer could no longer hurt them. Jared said he was happy that the Show has switched pov’s between Sam and Dean across the series run, because then you get to have reaction shots from both. He also mentioned what Curtis Armstrong had told me in our recent interview – that Jeremy Carver was already gone by the time the last few episodes were filmed, so the Show was in a showrunner transition period. I think, now that I’ve seen the finale too, that the communication and transition challenges probably had a significant impact on those last few episodes.  Jared also talked about some ad libs. In ‘Red Meat’, one of my favorite episodes all season, he said that director Nina Lopez Corrado was amazing. Unlike many new directors, she was very open to their input. Jared suggested having a sponge in his mouth (to bleed) as Sam gets shot and falling to his knees, and she went with it, which I think was a great decision. Jared and Jensen both want her to come back and direct — me too!
Gen sat in on some of Jared’s meet and greet, so I got to chat with her a bit, which was lovely.
16:55-17:30 Jensen panel (x)
Jensen asks for some apple juice, says that five o’clock is not coffee time, it’s apple juice time!
He mentions how some people have biked here to Rome and wants to know what kind of moron does that?
Jensen says that next year there are a lot of new producers, writers, and editors coming in so it’s going to be an interesting season. He has confidence in the new team, says the people who are in charge won’t lead us astray.
“I know that you guys are incredibly forgiving, and I’m hoping with where we go in season 12 that you won’t have to be.”
He’s asked what period drama he would like to direct? Jensen: Gone are the good old days of “what’s your favorite color?”
He says he has a project in his mind that doesn’t exist anywhere else which is about a folk song named El Paso. Apparently it’s a song from his childhood, would like to direct a short film about it.
A fan asks about Dean’s obsession with busy Asian beauties, Jensen says it probably started after Dean saw his first busty Asian. “Can we edit this?”
He says the thing about great writers is they write details which create layers in a character, credits Kripke with writing complex characters.
Jensen says that he thinks Sam was seeing the big picture not being too upset with Cas being Lucifer. “He saw it as a necessary evil” and Dean was just concerned about his friend, what the possession would do to Cas and how it would affect the team.
He says that scenes get shot so out of order that he forgets what ep a scene is in.
Jensen almost gave away a big spoiler about the finale lol.
“I use the term fan loosely. This is a family.” He says his favorite part about conventions are the m&g’s. He likes the back and forth and getting feedback from the fans.
Jensen says there is no other human on the planet that he spends more time with than Jared. It’s easy for them to play brothers because they literally are like brothers and feel like brothers.
Jensen on Jared: We spend so much time together that we think alike and we end up making the same comments at the same time.
He also says that Jared is quick witted: “I think you know that. I would never tell him that!” lol
Jensen thanks the fans for the support and is grateful they keep showing up.
Brad Creasser (main camera operator) is a J2 fanboy! He loves when the J’s talk at the same time, and hates it when Sam and Dean fight. Jensen goes on to explain that he and Jared will think of comments on set and deliver them simultaneously and Brad will go: “I love when they do that.”
Jensen says that people who work on the show all love and care about the show.
Jensen and Jared and the crew do $5 Fridays and love hanging out. Jared and Jensen often pitch in $50 or $100. Whatever crew member draws their name “wins the lottery.” Says that the crew are the real unsung heroes.
He talks about the scene where they saw Sparkles dead in “Just My Imagination” and says it was hilarious. They did the scene about 12 different ways.
A big dream of Jensen’s is doing Saturday Night Live.
Jensen says Dean didn’t have an imaginary friend because he didn’t have much of a childhood. “He had to grow up very quickly and it was an accept or reject situation. He accepted.” He would like to be able to film a scene with John discussing his childhood.
Jensen does a little strip tease with his jacket.
Jensen thinks it would be cool to play Jason Todd. He is a fan of both Marvel and DC.
Misha’s panel is next and he ends up crashing Jensen’s panel.
17:50-19:00 Jensen auto
18:15-19:00 Jared panel (x)
Jared crashes Misha’s panel and Misha bows down and drops to his knees; Jared plays along, telling Misha not to look at his face as Misha crawls off stage lol.
Jared thanks the fans for being so nice to Gen.
A fan asks who won the wrestling match between Sam and Dean in Tall Tales, Jared said Sam won: “I’ve got three inches on the guy! And I’m taller…” Gen is sitting off to the side of the stage and apparently rolled her eyes lol.
Jared says that Richard was never supposed to show up again but they loved him so much so they brought him back so many times.
A fan asks if Sam still has psychic powers and if they can be affected by the Mark of Cain? Jared doesn’t think the Mark will affect him but the powers are definitely still there, just dormant. “Me, personally, I think Sam’s psychic powers will always be there.” He says he hopes they get explored again.
A fan asks if he can tell anything about the Gilmore Girls reboot. (GG spoilers) He was doing SPN when they were shooting so they wrote him a very cool scene in the market he used to work in. Says it brought him closure.
A fan asks about how Sam was abused by Lucifer for so long, how does he feel about it not being addressed? Jared says that there were scenes that did address it, that some Sam scenes had been written but ultimately cut from the episode. Says that there’s a limited time on the show…There was a scene where Chuck told Sam why he shouldn’t be afraid of Lucifer, that Lucifer couldn’t hurt Sam and Dean as long as he was around. Jared tried to play it as Sam not really wanting anything to do with Lucifer…he says he’s “sorta sad that some of the scenes I filmed didn’t end up on camera.”
In March, Jared, Jensen, Misha et al had discussions about things being cut.
Jared thinks it’s cool people are paying attention to the plot holes, says they discuss characters’ development and choices and it’s cool to see they get noticed. Jared took some issue with Sam not being scared of Lucifer, too, but Chuck said they were safe.
“We overthink it and our choices on camera last forever…A lot of fans who noticed/disliked things, we feel that way, too.”
Jared’s fav city is Austin, fav country is Italy 😉 Jared and Gen fell “super in love” in Italy.
Jared gets anxious in foreign countries because he feels the need to take advantage of what a city has to offer. “Austin is a place I can just be Jared, where nobody judges me.”
Jared says he’s okay with Supernatural being Sam’s point of view or Dean’s point of view. He’s excited about seeing everyone’s POV.
Jared on traits of a good showrunner: “Someone with a great idea. A great plan, but are willing to let the best idea win.”
Jared says the amazing woman who directed Red Meat, Nina Lopez-Corrado, took loads of ideas from the cast/crew. Had a great vision but listened to those around her.
Rob crashes Jared’s panel and is asking to hear the train story (when Jared stopped all of the trains in Europe) lol! Richard and Gen come on stage as well. The train story is finally being told from Gen’s perspective (with some input from Jared and Richard haha).
Richard calls Gen a national treasure. Apparently Gen had a GREAT time in Amsterdam lol 😉
Rob to Gen: I’ve heard this story so many times and I never heard that you were stoned! Suddenly the story makes so much more sense!
They four of them start acting out the whole train story with sound effects.
Jensen crashes the panel as they’re telling the story! He says: “Meanwhile, I was in Germany waiting for a train…” but all of the trains in Europe were stopped lol.
